  1. PICTshow 2.1 Manual

  4. PICTshow is a viewer/player application for the following file types:
  5. - PICT files (also from PhotoCD's)
  6. - GIF pictures
  7. - Sound files (System 7 sound files)
  8. - Quicktime Movies (requires Quicktime)
  9.  
  10. PICTshow 2.x is a much improved version of the older PICTshow 1.x versions.
  11. I rewrote most of the code, fixed a lot of bugs and added a lot of new
  12. functionality. See 'Version History' file for more details about this.
  13.  
  14. PICTshow requires System 7 and a color capable Macintosh.
  15.  
  16. Using PICTshow
  17. ________________________________________________________________
  18. You simply add items by using the Add File/Add Folder buttons or by drag&drop
  19. items onto PICTshow. When using drag&drop, you can add every item, also
  20. folders and disks, and PICTshow will add just the items it understands.
  21.  
  22. By double-clicking onto one item in the list, you get an additional
  23. information dialog, where you can enter a text (up to 255 characters) and
  24. define the orientation (only PICT-files).
  25. If Speech Manager is installed, the text will be spoken.
  26.  
  27. Using the 'Next' Popupmenu, you can define how the next item appears.
  28. (Either after a specific time or after MouseClick/Return Key)
  29. When holding the shift-key, the previous item will be showed.

  31. 'Show' starts the show. When using the enter key, only the selected items
  32. are played. You can stop the show by pressing cmd-period.

  34. Special Keys

  36. While a show is being played, there are some options you can activate.
  37.  
  38. Quicktime Movies : Use +/- keys for volume
  39. PICT/GIF files (only if 'Next-Selection' is Mousebutton) :
  40.   r : Resize picture
  41.   +/- : zoom in / zoom out picture
  42.   arrow keys : move picture around the screen

  44. Menu Reference

  46. File Menu:
  47.   New  : Clears the itemlist
  48.   Open  : Open an old show
  49.   Save / SaveAs : Save itemlist as show
  50.   Add,Add Folder : Same function as the buttons
  51.   Preferences : See below 'Preferences'
  52. Edit Menu:
  53.   Undo : no undo yet!
  54.   Cut : Cut the selected items
  55.   Copy : Copy the selected items
  56.   Paste : Paste the items after current selection (or at the end if none selected)
  57.   Clear : Clear the selected items
  58.   Select All : Select all items
  59. Special Menu:
  60.   Play selected only : Same function as 'Enter' Key
  61.   Expand full show : Fullshows removed in version 2.0, expand still remains.
  62.   Show/Hide Preview Window: Shows/Hides a window that contains the preview 
  63.                 image of the last selected item. You can resize the window although the
  64.                 the grow icon is not visible. Just click where you would expect it to be!
  65.         Previews in List : Shows the preview pictures in the list
  66.   Page Setup / Print Previews : Print all previews. You can enter any title and
  67.     specify if the date should also be printed.

  69. Preferences
  70. ________________________________________________________________
  71. General:
  72.   Show preview window on startup : (nothing to be said here!)
  73.   Allow background tasks : While waiting for the next item, background applications
  74.     receive some CPU-time.
  75.   Never show cursor : You don't see any cursor while the show is playing
  76.   Use Speechmanager : Turn on/off speaking of the additional text or the items name.
  77.     Select your voice using the 'Voice' Popupmenu. (Requires Speechmanager)
  78.   Show item's name : Displays the name of each item while being played.
  79.         Cache List Preview Pictures : Caches all preview pictures (Good for PhotoCDs)
  80. Fading: 
  81.   Turn on/off fading and set the fading time. (Requires color display)
  82. Quicktime:
  83.   Double Movies : Movies are played at their double size
  84.   Use Movie Controler : The Movie Controller is used to play the movies
  85. Pictures:
  86.   Resize Pictures : Pictures (PICT and GIF) are resized
  87.   Keep picture's proportions : The proportions of the picture are untouched
  88.   Don't grow small pictures : Small pictures won't be enlarged, just the big ones
  89.     will be shrinked to fit on the screen.

  91. Hints/Tips
  92. ________________________________________________________________
  93. - Rotation requires a lot of memory. If you don't have much memory, don't use
  94.   this option.
  95. - When PICTshow quits with an error, you should restart the computer because
  96.   some gobal setting are not restored.
  97. - Resizing doesn't work with all resize settings. (Don't ask me why...)
  98. - GIF pictures normaly don't have previews, so you won't be able to print
  99.    a catalog from GIF pictures.
  100. - The GIF decoder works using 24-bit offscreens. Therefore for best display 
  101.         performance use 16 or 24 bit screen resolution. (In "Monitors" Control Panel)
  102. - If PICTshow can't find the items for a saved show, put all items into
  103.   the same folder as the show file and try again.
